Abstract: Electrostatic air propulsion is a promising technology with such potential applications as energy-efficient ventilation, air sterilization, cooling of electronics, and dehumidification. The challenges of existing designs include the need to increase air speed, backpressure, energy efficiency, and heat exchange capability.

    Electrostatic effects have been known since ancient times but only with the discovery of the electron in the present century has an adequate theory started to develop to explain them. There is now renewed interest in the subject caused by the need to understand the electrostatic causes of explosions, and industrial applications such as electrostatic powder coating and photocopying. The paper describes experiments involving the excitation and stabilization of electrostatic perturbations of the plasma in an accelerator with closed electron drift and an extended ion acceleration zone (ACED, also known as a linear Hall generator); a control system consisting of a sensor probe, a bandpass filter, a delay line, and amplifier, and a control electrode in the plasma is used.

    This book is intended to provide an introduction to the field of accelerator techniques and to give overviews of some of the more important research fields. The book is mainly concentrated on electrostatic accelerators. In these accelerators, the acceleration takes part in .
